In a world where the vast majority of people live the vast majority of their lives in technology, students are getting earlier opportunities to engage in the building blocks behind its use.

Sixth graders in Bethany Tangen’s science classes at Jefferson Intermediate School in Pella have had the chance to do a deep dive into coding. Led by Technology Teacher Paula Winward, the coding projects for students are part of a curriculum developed for middle school aged kids to give them a chance to apply technology to potential real-world solutions.

The project started as a branch of the annual Hour of Code to a full week of classes.
