News Second Graders Learn from Local Police Lieutenant

Published on October 17, 2023
Second Graders in Ms. Hoerter’s second grade class at Madison School recently received a special visit during Writing class. The students were working on an expository essay to teach Madison preschoolers about the many ways police officers are community helpers.
Lieutenant Reed Kious, from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, visited the second graders and taught them about various ways police officers help their communities.
In addition, the students enjoyed learning about the training it takes to become a police officer, about a drone program, and about the many tools and equipment used by police officers. The visit concluded with a tour of Lieutenant Kious’ work vehicle.
The second graders appreciate Lieutenant Kious and all the officers who work to help keep them safe in their communities!
