News CAP Students Ring the Bell at Kerstmarkt Market
Published on December 6, 2024Industrial Technology students from the Career Academy of Pella, led by instructor Brent Ewell, were honored during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Kerstmarkt Dutch Christmas Market for their impressive work on a special project. As part of their Fundamentals of Construction classes, these students collaborated with the Visit Pella organization to construct a dedicated Kerstmarkt shed for the festival.
This general elective course introduces students to the various phases of residential construction. Throughout the semester, they engage in hands-on lab assignments, applying their classroom knowledge to real-world projects, such as the Kerstmarkt shed. Their work on this capstone project is a key component of the class, which offers an exciting opportunity for students to explore careers in the construction industry.
For many of the students, the class also serves as an introduction to postsecondary opportunities, including the Residential Construction apprenticeship program, setting the stage for potential careers in construction. The experience not only helps them develop practical skills but also allows them to contribute meaningfully to their community by working on a high-profile event like the Kerstmarkt.
