News School Playgrounds Closed

Published on March 31, 2020

Pella Community School District and the City of Pella have closed access to playgrounds to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

The City of Pella and the Pella Community School District continue to monitor and develop appropriate plans in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and wellness of our community and team members is a top priority. Accordingly, as developments continue to unfold, appropriate actions and steps will be implemented. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time.

As a result of continued guidance from the CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health on the importance of social distancing, the City of Pella and the Pella Community School District have closed all playgrounds and play structures to the public effective immediately. In addition, the City of Pella has closed the tennis courts and pickleball courts located at Kiwanis Park and Caldwell Park. These closures will remain in place until further notice.

At this time, green spaces and trails remain open for public use; however, we ask that those who have exhibited symptoms of being ill refrain from using these spaces until they have completed home isolation as directed by the CDC. We encourage those visiting our green spaces and trails to utilize the following precautions:

  • Stay aware of and observe CDC guidelines as they apply to personal hygiene, social distancing, and group size during the use of these spaces
  • Pack hand sanitizer and bottled water as restrooms and drinking fountains remain closed
